I am so confused and baffled and unable to process what is going on in the world. Students protesting. Rioting. Spewing hatred and death to anyone who disagrees with them. My peaceful brain and open heart feel attacked. My soul is crying for those in the crosshairs of these trying times. So, I have a few questions:
- How many of these students, who are embracing a known terrorist group – Hamas -know why they are protesting? Do they know the history of the Middle East that goes back millenia? Do they know anything besides the hatred they have embraced? Do they really know what Hamas stands for and how it began?
- Do they know the details of the unprovoked attack that this terrorist group perpetrated upon the innocent lives of Israel on October 7, 2023? Can they seriously accept the massacre, rape, burning of the innocents?
- Do they even care about the hostages, some of whom are American citizens, being held by this terrorist group?
- What connection do these students/protesters/angry-young-men-and woman have to the Middle East that would make them so filled with hatred?
- What has Israel done to them, or their families, to make them feel such hatred. What makes them feel that they must take such drastic action as to keep students who disagree with them from the very expensive education they or their parents are paying for? What gives them the right to keep students who disagree with them from getting to their dorms or the cafeterias so they can eat?
- How, tell me, how can such hatred exist? Some of these students are barely out of their teens…
I try not to watch too much news. I cannot wrap my brain around any of this. I am trying…with every fiber of my being and my spirit to understand… but the hatred that fills this world, in so many areas, is just something I cannot even begin to understand. Love, love is the answer. Peace, peace is what I strive for. Understanding and acceptance of those who are different from me is what my heart and soul crave.
Hatred, so thick it blinds, has to be replaced by love and understanding. I sound like a song from the sixties or seventies, but that is how I feel. I just became a grandmother last fall. Thinking of the kind of world that awaits my precious granddaughter, if this hatred continues, scares the hell out of me. I hope peace finds its way back into the world. For her sake. For the sake of the entire population.
